Jared P. Jensen, field research manager at SAN Agrow, will present a seminar hosted by the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology (ENT), on Monday, April 28 on "Crop Protection Product Development: An Insider's Perspective."

His seminar begins at 4:10 p.m. in Room 122, Briggs Hall, and also will be on Zoom. The Zoom link: https://ucdavis.zoom.us/j/95882849672.

"Having worked on the discovery and/or development for nine different pesticide products (across multiple indications), I have gained a breadth of knowledge of what it takes to successfully bring new solutions to market, in the US and abroad," he writes in his abstract. "My goal is to provide an insider’s perspective on the process, discuss the importance of university partnerships, and give some early career advice."

SAN Agrow, based in Vista, Calif., is the crop protection business unit of SAN Group. SAN Agrow contributes to sustainable agriculture by providing biotechnological crop protection, nutrients, and bio-stimulants.

SAN Agrow "was founded by joining forces of Westbridge Agricultural Products Inc. in the USA, and bio-ferm GmbH in Austria," according to its website. "SAN Agrow contributes to sustainable agriculture by providing biotechnological crop protection (biopesticides, biofungicides, bioherbicides), nutrients, and plant growth regulators. With products based on microorganisms or plant extracts, we are contributing to more sustainable agriculture. Through strong in-house R+D, we gain new insights in the areas of microbial biocontrol agents, microbial fermentations, plant extracts, biostimulants, as well as plant nutrition, and thus develop new products contributing to sustainable organic and conventional crop farming.

Jensen joined SAN Agrow in February 2024 after serving as a nematologist for AgBiome for six years in Raleigh-Durham, N.C. He was the technical lead nematologist for discovery of biological nematicides and nematicidal trait. His career also includes adjunct professor at ECPI University for nearly two years in Raleigh-Durham.

Jensen received his master's degree in applied biosciences in 2013 from the University of Arizona and his doctorate in plant pathology/phytopathology in 2017 from Iowa State University. His dissertation: "Effects of Nematicidal Seed Treatments on the Biology of the Soybean Cyst Nematode."

Coordinator of the seminars is nematologist Amanda Hodson, assistant professor. She may be reached at akhodson@ucdavis.edu for any technical issues with Zoom.
