Nematologist Amanda Hodson, assistant professor of soil ecology and pest management, and coordinator of the UC Davis Department of Entomology and Nematology's seminars for the 2024-25 academic year, has announced the list of fall quarter seminars

A Salute to Internationally Recognized Nematologist Howard Ferris

 

UC Davis Distinguished Professor Emeritus Howard Ferris, internationally recognized for his “exceptional, wide-ranging and unparalleled contributions to nematology” over a 64-year career, is a newly elected Honorary Member of the Society of Nematologists (SON), the international organization’s highest award.

Ferris received the award at SON’s 63rd annual conference, held in Park City, Utah.

Entomology Shares Spotlight in Video Salute to UC Davis Emeriti

 

Entomology shared the spotlight in a newly released UC Davis video tribute to emeriti, an annual public service project by UC Davis distinguished professor Walter Leal.

Leal creates an annual video tribute to UC Davis faculty transitioning to emeriti, "as a way of celebrating their accomplishments as they enter a new chapter in their lives." It is a zero-budget, one-person production.

'The Ethogram' to Present Outreach Program on Animal Behavior at Davis Library on Aug. 19

"Animal Behavior for Young Explorers!"

 

That's the theme of a special outreach program to be presented by The Ethogram,  members of the UC Davis Animal Behavior Graduate Group (ABGG),

The free public event, geared for youth ranging from kindergarten through  eighth grade, is set from 2:30 to 4 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19 in the Blanchard Room of the Mary L. Stephens branch of the Davis Library, 315 E. 14th Street, Davis. 

Moth Night at Bohart Museum of Entomology: Lots to See and Do

 

A sensory moth exhibit by a UC Davis doctoral student and his father will be among the stations featured at the Bohart Museum of Entomology Moth Night, set from 7 to 11 p.m., Saturday, July 20 in Room 1124 of the Academic Surge Building, 455 Crocker Lane. 

The event, free and family friendly, will take place inside and outside the Bohart Museum, as well as in the hallway of Academic Surge.

Like a moth to a flame….

The Bohart Museum of Entomology is hosting its annual Moth Night, free and open to the public, on Saturday, July 20. 

The event, held in conjunction with National Moth Night, is set from 7 to 11 p.m. in Room 1124 of the Academic Surge Building, 455 Crocker Lane, and outside. A blacklighting display--UV lights on a white sheet--will be set up to draw moths and other night-flying insects.

Date Set for Thomas and Nina Leigh Distinguished Alumni Award Seminar

 

The date is set for the recently postponed Thomas and Nina Leigh Distinguished Alumni Award Seminar. Noted entomologist and climate change author Michael Hoffmann, emeritus professor of Cornell University, will deliver the seminar on Monday, Oct. 14 in the Putah Creek Lodge.

The event, to include a social, lecture and dinner, begins at 4 p.m. The lodge is located at 685 Putah Creek Lodge Drive.
