Professor Emerita Valerie Williamson Receives Highest SON Honor

 

UC Davis Professor Emerita Valerie Moroz Williamson of the Department of Plant Pathology is the recipient of the Society of Nematologists' highest honor: Honorary Member.

Williamson, a fellow of the Society of Nematology (SON) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), received the plaque, inscribed with "For Outstanding Contributions to Nematology,"  at its recent meeting in Baltimore.

UC Davis nematologists, including Valerie Williamson, professor emerita in the Department of Plant Pathology, and associate professor Shahid Siddique, Department of Entomology and Nematology, have long wondered how the plant-parasitic nematode, the Northern root-knot nematode, is able to infect such a wide range of organisms, from monocots and dicots to annual crops and woody plants.
