I am a proud transfer student from Oakland California, having completed the first year of my undergrad at Laney Community College, my second year at Oregon State University, and my last two years here at UC Davis. I have had a huge fascination with insects and other small organisms for as long as I can remember, which led me to the Entomology program here at UC Davis. In my time here, I have helped at the Sih Lab under Richard Szeligowski on Day Gecko behavioral assays, worked in the General Chemistry Dispensary, and Interned with the Bohart Museum of Entomology.
My name is Yarely Aguilar, a third-year Entomology major with a minor in Education, and I’m very happy to be nominated student of the month for entomology! I am very lucky to have chosen Davis since I have been involved in so many opportunities here! Initially, I was majoring in Ecology until I took ENT 10: Natural History of Insects, and became quickly enveloped by the weird, but fascinating biology of insects.
Hi! My name is Ryan Meadows. I am a fourth-year Entomology undergraduate student, set to graduate in June 2025. Entomology has been my major since the fall quarter of my third year. Before that, I actually changed my major twice! When I entered UC Davis as a freshman, I was a Biochemistry major. That same year, I switched to Food Science, and after taking ENT 001 with Dr. Diane Ullman, I realized how fascinating the study of insects was to me. Now, as I prepare for my Ph.D. studies at UC Davis, I’ve decided to merge my interests in biochemistry, food science, and entomology.
My name is Ian Jett and I am a senior Entomology major planning on graduating in June of 2025. I have been an Entomology major since the winter quarter of my freshman year. I initially entered college with the plan of going to medical school as a general bio major but I quickly realized that I wouldn't really be happy going that direction. I've had a strong interest in biology since high school and in December of my freshman year I received an email detailing the Research Scholars Program in Insect Biology and decided to apply.
My name is Felix Duley, and I am so honored to be a nominee for entomology student of the month! I study and live in Davis with my fiancé and our plethora of pets, including spiders, scorpions, fish, and our two cats. Any time not spent studying I spend creating art, hanging out with my family and friends, or exploring nature. I have been lucky enough to be a student at UC Davis since the fall quarter of 2022, and this spring I will finish up my undergraduate journey with my bachelor’s in entomology.
